I have a consistent record of opposing special interests and serving the public. I've worked to try to keep taxes low, to make government more accountable, and to protect consumers from being gouged. I believe in and have a record of standing up for constitutional rights.- Citizen's Merit Award from the Anchorage Police (1987)

- Stood up to protect our First Amendment rights (2006)
Professional Experience
- Executive Chef: Prior to coming to Anchorage in 1970 I was a chief or "executive chef".
- Food Purchasing Manager: From 1970 through 1973 I worked for several airlines and a catering firm as a purchasing manager.
- Assistant Camp Manager: From 1973 through 1977 I worked as an Assistant Camp Manager during the building of the pipeline.
- Business Owner: In 1977 my brother and I opened a family restaurant in Mountain View. I helped to run the restaurant for eleven years, until 1988.
- Property Manager: I worked as a property manager from 1988 until I went back to school in 1990. After receiving my degree, I continued with my career until retirement in 2007.
Education
- After high school in Bavaria, I attended culinary arts school and graduated as a chef.
- In 1990, I went back to school. I attended the University of Alaska, Anchorage and received dual degrees in History and Justice.
